Qatar and Rwanda have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for defence co-operation between the two countries.

The memorandum aims to establish a co-operative framework in the field of defence and security, in addition to enhancing and strengthening the existing friendship and solidarity relations between the two countries.

From the Qatari side, HE Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Lieutenant-General (Pilot) Salem bin Hamad bin Aqeel al-Nabit signed the MoU in Rwanda's capital Kigali, while Chief of Defence Staff General Jean Bosco Kazura signed the memorandum from the Rwandan side, in the presence of officials and a number of high-ranking officers from both sides.  - Gulf Times

Fighting between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition and armed youths, which began in Mirmir Payam, has spread to several villages in Koch, Mayiandit and Leer.

UNMISS strongly condemns the violence at a time when humanitarian needs are rising, and people are already reeling from the worst flooding in decades," the statement said.

Killings, rapes and looting

The violence has been mounting over the past two weeks.

Civilians have been killed, while others were injured or forced to flee their homes. Property was destroyed and humanitarian supplies were also looted in the violence.

Nine women were raped between 22 and 23 February, health facilities in Leer town reported.

Prevent further escalation

UNMISS has appealed to national and local leaders, and armed groups, to immediately stop the violence.

"The Mission urges national and local authorities to take immediate measures to reduce tensions and to prevent further escalation of the situation,” the statement said.

UNMISS will ramp up patrols and continue to work with stakeholders at the state, national and local level, as well as communities, to encourage dialogue and reduce tensions and insecurity.

It also plans to conduct missions to the affected areas to assess the situation and document allegations of violations and abuses.

The statement calls for authorities to carry out timely investigations and urges the Government to hold accountable those responsible for instigating and participating in the violence. - United Nations

Storm Eunice hit London and it was like a wild wind warzone. Fences collapsed, bins flew, trampolines hit the air and more debries landing on railway tracks. Men and women fought the strength of the wind but some were subdued and were blow away landing in places they never wanted to be.

Fence brought down by the wind

The government had issue red warning about the threat of Storm Eunice. However, some had to go to work, others had flights scheduled, trucks to deliver important products saw this as just another day and they all tried to do what they do each day.  The problem was, Master Storm Eunice didn’t care about their decisions.

So then, planes couldn’t land. Storm tried to blow them away. Trees fell on roads hitting buses, cars and anything on their way. All forms of transport were halted. In North London, a tree fell on a car killing a lady.

In London O2 or popularly known as the millennium dome was not spared. Storm Eunice with great fury ripped it into bits. The front part of the O2 was left in ruins. As strong wind gusts showed no mercy on the building.

O2 in London torn by the storm

The London eye, cable cars and any other air services were stopped due to their vulnerability of them as they risked destruction. Sadly. Four people lost their lives through storm Eunice.

According to scientists, Eunice has been reportedly the worst storm in British history.  Thousands went with no internet connection.  To cope with the challenges brought by Storm Eunice creatives got an opportunity for entertainment. Clips and memes went viral online showcasing how people in the UK were being blown awa by the wind.

Bins blown and left scattered on the ground

On Tittok, a clip of fans cheering and encouraging the plane at Heathrow Airport to land properly went viral as you could hear people cheering when the plane overcame the force of the storm and finally landed. But one thing I found spectacular about yesterday’s storm was peoples’ capabilities to turn this horrific storm into a comedic opportunity to make people laugh. Do you think this is something we’d look back on in 2023?
