KIGALI, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The fourth edition of games for police institutions from eastern Africa kicked off Tuesday in Rwanda's capital city Kigali, aimed at fostering cooperation in fighting cross border crimes.

To run until March 27, the annual games are organized by the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO), a regional police body.

Major sports disciplines include football, handball, netball, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, Karate, Taekwondo and boxing.

The games were organized under the theme: "Fostering Police cooperation in fighting transnational organized crimes through sports."

The week-long annual games returned after three years of suspension due to COVID-19.

The games will be played at 20 different sports grounds in Kigali and Bugesera District in eastern Rwanda, with the opening and closing ceremonies organized at the newly inaugurated Kigali Pele Stadium and BK Arena, respectively. - Xinhua
